In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of people in the US that work from home. Some of them have started their own businesses, some may telecommute from a distant location, and others work from home to take care of children or relatives. A Home Office is a necessity, it allows you to stay organized and get work tasks done. It’s also important that you feel comfortable, relaxed and calm in your work station, so you can be as efficient as possible. If you are considering working from home or need to remodel your home office to increase productivity, read the following tips.
1- Color: you might want to choose a color that fits to the kind of business and industry you are into. If you are a lawyer or an attorney, you might want to choose a neutral color like white or cream. Rich colors like red or burgundy gives energy to the office environment, cold colors like green or blue give a different effect of peace, calmness and tranquility. It’s also important that you choose a high quality paint that can last for a long time so you will not have to spend money to repaint it;
2- Furniture: choosing the right furniture is really important when you need to decorate your home office because they will determinate how it will look like. Make sure that whatever furniture you choose, they all have to match with the wallpaper or the color of the wall paint. A good advice is to decorate it with furniture that all have the same style and design. Mismatching is bad because it gives a sense of no taste and a not professional environment;
3- Placing: the best place to set up your desk or working station is close to the window, possible in front of it. This will allow you to use as natural light as possible which will make you work with a more focused mind and at the same time will make you save money. Ergonomic is a termed used to describe things that are easy to use and do not stress you physically or mentally more than necessary. A key component in ergonomic design is user-customization, meaning you can adjust the item to fit your needs and specifications. Below are some things to look for in your office furniture to make sure it is ergonomic.
Desk Chair:
If you have an office job having a comfortable chair is essential. Typically workers spend up to eight hours in their chairs and an ergonomic chair helps make that a little bit more bearable. Adjustable height of the chair, tilt, and armrests are very important characteristics. Most ergonomic chairs have mesh backs, which many find comfortable as well. With a little extra investment you can find chairs with extra padding, which may additionally help your back.
Desk:
You can use ergonomic desks as well. While a desk’s style has less impact on the physical state of a worker’s body than a chair, it is still important to the overall level of comfort and ease of work. The desk should be at a level where the computer monitor is at eye level with the user. Having to tilt your head (up or down) can be stressful over long periods of time. The workspace should also be kept clear to avoid having to reach for items more than necessary. The desk should also be large enough that there is ample leg room beneath it. Purchase a home office desk that will fit your needs, but also fit your space and budget.

With Carpal Tunnel on the rise from significant use of computers, the proper keyboard can make all the difference. An ergonomic keyboard will force your hands, wrists, and arms to align properly. With standard keyboards you arms can fall into awkward body angles, so this causes them to naturally stay in a comfortable position. There are two types of ergonomic keyboards – the curved style and the split style. The curved style features a keyboard that bends, so your arms jut out a little bit more. The split keyboard actually separates in the middle. These are expensive and difficult to learn at first. For a cheaper solution you can find keyboard trays that tilt or have a cushion for your wrists.
